Makes about 8 biscuits
- 1c Bell GF Flour Mix
- 1/2c Potato Starch
- 1T other (amaranth, bean, anything you have on hand)
- 2t Baking Powder
- 1 1/2 t xanthan gum
- 1/2t Salt
- 1/4c Shortening (crisco is what I use)
- 1/2c Milk
- 1 egg
- Dump everything into a food processor and pulse until combined
- Dust a surface with rice flour
- Flatten dough about 1/2inch onto pre-floured surface (If you like to be able to split with a fork, fold dough in half a few times before cutting)
- Cut with biscuit cutter.
- Collect dough and repeat until done.
- Bake in a 425 F oven for 12-15 minutes
Tips
For easy clean up put a piece of plastic wrap on top of the food processor bowl before placing the top on. Also use parchement paper to flatten dough for easy clean up. Save leftover dough to make biscuit toppings on stews and casseroles.
I made these biscuits last night, they were really tasty. My Hubby & I have been trying many different GF biscuit recipes, yours is best so far, by far. Question is : Are you sure you have the correct time & temp in the recipe? I baked my biscuits at the recommended time & temp. They were not cooked all the way so I baked them for another 5 min. Still not done, 5 more min. Still not done. Turned up the oven to 425 & cooked them for 10 or so more min. At that point they had some golden color. So, I ended up cooking them for twice as long as what your recipe recommends.
Glad you liked them. You’re right about the temp. I’ve corrected the recipe to 425 F, time is good at that temp.
I’m also redoing my recipes section. It will be living at glutenfreebells.wordpress.com. I have updated the recipe there also.
Thanks. Enjoy the biscuits.
